A blocked account is one of the possibilities to prove your ability to pay for a national D visa.

What does "Blocked Account" mean?

A blocked account implies a freezing of funds. Once the account is activated, the student will have a monthly amount of 992€ available.

If you haven't spent the full amount for the month, the balance will be available plus the monthly amount in the next period.

How much does a blocked account cost?

When applying for a visa you will need proof of funding for your stay as minimumfor the first academic year at the rate of €992 per month (€11,904 per year).

Bank or provider fees are charged separately (100-150 €).

Where can I open a blocked account?

According to information available to the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the following banks/providers provide this service in Germany:

Is there an alternative to a blocked account?

You can also confirm the financing of the stay with:

  • Receiving a stipend of 992,- euros per month
  • formal declaration of acceptance of the undertaking/guarantee (behördliche Verpflichtungserklärung)
