who can enroll?
You can apply directly to a bachelor's degree program at a German university if you have:
- a high school diploma;
- at least one year of study at a Ministry of Education-accredited university in the home country;
- proof of language skills (DSH, TestDaF (with a minimum grade of 4 in each of the 4 parts, etc.). Detailed information can always be found on the website of the university of your choice).
Can I apply right out of high school?
No. If you have only a school certificate, you need to complete a year of pre-university training at the Stüdienkolleg. Details on reference.
how do I apply?
Applying for admission is an individual matter. The application package may vary slightly depending on the chosen university.
Most universities accept applications from international students through a single service uni-assist.

Necessary documents to take care of first:
- translation of educational documents in a language other than German or English. The translation should preferably be done by a sworn translator who is listed in the official database of the German Ministry of Justice;
- Certified copies of all education and transfer documents.
when do I apply?
You can start studying at a German university twice a year, depending on your specialty.
Filing is usually done before:
- July 15.If you're planning to begin your studies at winter semester (September/October);
- Jan. 15If you're planning to begin your studies at summer semester (March/April).
how much is the tuition?
Higher education in Germany is free of charge. Students are charged a semester fee of approximately 100-300€, which includes a travel ticket.
The exception is the state of Baden-Württemberg. A semester there costs 1500€.
Since the fall of 2024, the Technical University of Munich has introduced fee-based education; education there will cost 2000/3000€ per semester for bachelor's programs and 4000/6000€ for master's programs. Education at some universities of applied sciences in Bavaria costs 500€ per semester.
