One of the possibilities to prove finances for a D study visa is an official surety bond. In this article we will tell you everything you need to know.
An official surety bond - Verpflichtungserklärung - is a serious document. In exchange for proof of a high net income, the guarantor receives a serious financial liability for a period of 5 years. The surety cannot be revoked.
Who can become a guarantor?
The guarantor can be a German resident who has sufficient income. The required income is determined by the migration office of the city in which the guarantor resides. This is roughly 2,500 euros netto for guarantors without children or other financial obligations.
Contrary to common misconceptions, the guarantor does not have to be a German citizen or have a permanent residence permit. For example, holders of a Blue Card or a working residence permit can become guarantors if they have a long-term contract.
How do I get a surety bond?
The surety is registered at the migration service in the place of residence of the guarantor. You should find out about the procedure directly on the website of the Migration Service, where you will find the entire list of documents and the necessary application forms.
When is it a good idea to get a surety bond?
The surety bond must have been issued no more than 6 months ago at the time of visa application. Familiarize yourself in advance with the procedure for obtaining a surety bond in your city so that you can meet the deadline.
