Two successful cases this week

National visa in Moscow

The visa was issued in 7 working days after submitting the documents. We had prepared a complete and competently executed package. But, as often happens, the staff of Visametrics wanted to make their own "corrections" and came up with a new vision of a blockchain for applicants.

Important: always check exactly what the paperwork states to avoid surprises.

Bottom line: the visa was approved on the originally submitted package, with no adjustments or additions.

Student residence permit in Germany, entry from Ukraine without a visa

A student entered Germany in the second half of March. She rented temporary accommodation for 2 weeks, during this time a permanent residence was successfully found and a propiska was made. Immediately after we submitted the full package of documents to the migration service, we did not forget to attach a reference to the documents that confirm the right to visa-free entry for long-term stay (yes, yes, there were cases when the Abkhaz simply did not know about it and turned the students around).

After only 2 weeks, I got a reply. We were given a date to submit the prints and pay the fee. On Monday our student received her student residence permit for 2 years.

Working while studying

The work permit is directly related to the paragraph of the Residence Act under which you are granted a visa or residence permit.

University, Stüdienkolleg and language courses as part of pre-university training (§16b AufenthG)

  • You are allowed to work up to 140 days per calendar year.
  • Work under university structures, e.g. as a research assistant (HiWi) is not counted in this limit.
  • Counting workdays under two models: 8 hours - full-time (4 hours - half-time) OR 2.5 days for a 20-hour workweek.
  • Working up to 40 hours per week during semester breaks counts as 2.5 days.

! Don't confuse work authorization with a limit of 20 hours per week during the semester and 40 hours per week during vacations - these are restrictions related to Social Security and the ability to stay on a student's health insurance plan.

Isolated language course (§16f AufenthG)

  • You are allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during the course.

Applicants - usually students with an invitation to take the entrance exam (§17 AufenthG) are granted this visa.

  • Authorized to work up to 20 hours per week.

Visa for language courses

Our student got her visa the other day! Initial data: 27 years old, completed bachelor's degree, German B1 level, but without official certificate.

We started our work back in October: we chose schoolWe have prepared a package of documents, including motivation letterand we waited for the feed to open and then we waited.

In March, a letter arrived from the visa department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting to expand the blockchain up to 12 months and provide a language certificate.

Challenges:
1. the nearest test center was 500 km away, and the exam was only a month away. The visa office did not take the certificate of completion of the course seriously.
2. The passport under consideration has been valid for less than a year. In addition, visas for isolated language courses cannot be obtained for longer than the duration of the course itself.

Our solutions:
We promptly wrote a reasoned letter. The same day we received a reply: the blockcheck could only be extended to 9 months, and the visa department agreed to accept our decision instead of the certificate. Later, we had to agree to postpone the deadline, which also went smoothly.

Result:
Two weeks after sending the updated documents (taking into account the Easter holidays), the visa was in hand!

We cooperate with the best language schools all over Germany: Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne and many other cities.

After completing the course, you do not have to leave Germany: you can apply for a residence permit for further study or work directly on site.

Life in WG and how much it costs

WG (Wohngemeinschaft) is a shared accommodation format where several people rent one apartment and share the rent. It is popular among students and is cheaper than renting alone.

The Moses Mendelsohn Institute has been analyzing data from the largest room rental portal for years wg-gesucht.deand here are the figures for 2024: the average cost of a room in WG across Germany is 489 euros per month.

But a lot depends on the city:

🏙️ top expensive cities:

  • Munich 790€ (even in the Munich district, e.g. in Garching and Ismaning room prices in WG reach 660€, which is more expensive than in most major cities)
  • Frankfurt 680€
  • Berlin 650€
  • Hamburg 620€
  • Cologne 600€
  • Düsseldorf 600€
  • Stuttgart 560€
  • Potsdam 555€

🌿 Most affordable cities:

  • Mitwaida 266€
  • Freiberg 266€
  • Chemnitz 290€
  • Wismar 325€
  • Jena 328€

💡 If you can, look for accommodation in advance, especially if you're traveling to a major city.

✨ Success story: Vladislav's journey to Germany!

Getting into Germany is not always on the first try, but the main thing is not to give up! 💪 Vladislav graduated from high school in 2024 and planned to study in Germany. We started to apply during the 11th grade, but then we didn't have enough time to pass the language exam, and we had to postpone the entry. By the way, we considered only one Stüdienkolleg, because Hamburg had won Vlad over and he didn't want to give other cities a chance.

🎯 The second attempt was successful! Right after school we applied to the Stüdienkolleg Hamburg. At first Vlad was on the waiting list and was already preparing to retake the German exam for a higher level. But before he could even write the exam, he received a long-awaited invitation.

In January, Vlad started his studies at the Stüdienkolleg. He found a room for rent and soon got a place in a dormitory just 15 minutes away from his studies. Thanks to a competent approach, it was possible to terminate the lease early and find a new tenant. The other day Vlad moved into the dormitory.

📑 We continue to accompany Vlad in applying for a residence permit, because his case is not simple: previously he had a protection status in Germany, then a temporary return to Ukraine, plus he is not yet 18 years old.

How did we help?
✅ Prepared documents for submission to the Stüdienkolleg
✅ Bringing it to enrollment
✅ Helped with dormitory and change of place of residence
✅ Support after relocation and support for residence permit processing

Vlad's story is an example that even if the first plan didn't work, there is always a solution!
